The Nordic Clean Energy Scenarios project identified technological solutions and developed energy scenarios on how the Nordic energy sector can achieve carbon neutrality and how this implicates various sectors. The focus was on energy-related greenhouse gas emissions, as they take up a large part of the total emissions (81% in 2017).
The project built on previous work, such as the Nordic Energy Technology Perspectives, by complementing the cost-effective pathways with updated and deeper analyses of technological and socio-economic framework conditions.
A web-based tool was developed to allow for the data and results to be explored in a transparent and accessible way. To further continuous development, the models and database created are open access.
The project was funded by Nordic Energy Research and implemented in partnership with Energiforsk (lead), Energy Modelling Lab, IVL Svenska Miljöinstitutet, Norwegian University of Life Sciences, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Profu, Thema, and Tøkni. It ran from January 2020 to August 2021.
