Ea has given recommendations for the charging infrastructure in relation to the electrification of the Agersø III and Omø ferries. The work has been carried out for Slagelse Municipality, who is taking part in a standard ferry project under Færgesekretariatet (the Ferry Secretariat).
Slagelse Municipality intends to contribute to the green transition by refurbishing the municipal ferry between Stigsnæs and Agersø, called Agersø III (from 2012), so it becomes an electric ferry instead of a diesel ferry. Simultaneously, the municipality has made a deal for buying a new standard ferry through the project with the Færgesekretariat. The new ferry is to replace the existing Omø Ferry.
The new Omø Ferry will be an electric ferry just like Agersø III, and the charging infrastructure for the two ferries shall be devised together. The charging stations for the ferries will be set up in Stigsnæs Færgehavn, which both ferries dock at.
The amount of charging needed was analysed, along with possible placements of the charging stations for Agersø III and the new ferry to Omø. The analysis was followed by a number of recommendations for how the full project should be divided into phases, recommendations for the decision-making process, as well as general recommendations, mainly for mains connections, considerations for sailing schedules, and battery systems.
The project ran in February 2023.
