In previous winters, the Danish TSO Energinet paid companies for the right to shut off or reduce their gas flow for a period of time, as a precaution to be able to alleviate capacity issues on a short notice.
In a project carried out for the Danish Energy Agency, Ea Energy Analyses has investigated the potential of similar contracts for a number of protected gas users, to explore how useful this would be to reduce gas usage. Unlike in the setup for contracts used by Energinet, which was used to cover supply issues of a shorter duration, the focus in this analysis was on long-term reductions in the gas usage to alleviate the current supply crisis.
