Ea has carried out an internal analysis of the electricity retail market for the Danish Energy Agency, focusing on small consumers such as households and small and medium size companies.
The electricity retail market has long been characterised by low interest and low engagement from the end users, as well as a limited number of options for end users with low usage. This has meant relatively few changes of supplier and virtually no flexibility in the electricity usage by smaller customers. A number of conditions has changed this, particularly in relation to flexible usage, where there is a rising interest – remotely read electricity meters and new apps have made it easier to make flexible electricity usage happen.
The analysis points to a number of conditions that it would be advantageous to improve in order to support the interested consumers.
The project ran from December 2021 to March 2022.
