Sweco and Ea Energy Analyses have, on behalf of the Danish Energy Agency, prepared an assessment of the potential for contribution by buildings to flexibility in the electricity and heating system. The analysis, “Energy efficient and intelligent buildings in a smart energy system” (in Danish), assesses the potential for different flexibility measures and the profitability of exploiting these potentials.
The analysis concludes that the greatest socioeconomic value and profitability comes from changing the supply form, such as switching from natural gas and district heating to electricity via hybrid heat pumps, when electricity prices are low. In addition, the analysis points out the importance of consumer tariffs reflecting real marginal transmission and distribution costs in order to mobilize the flexibility potential.
The work was carried out between October 2017 and October 2018.
