The Energy Saving Secretariat under the Danish Energy Agency was created in the autumn 2014 and has as aim to promote energy savings in private businesses, in particular small and medium sized businesses as well as larger businesses not regulated by the EU carbon emission trading scheme. The secretariat has at its disposal 40 million DKK for the period 2014-2017 and will focus its activities on areas that hold significant potentials but are not currently sufficiently addressed by other initiatives.
The aim of this project was to carry out a systematic analysis of the experiences of private businesses with energy saving projects – both technical and behavioral projects – in order to gain insights in how much energy businesses save, what influences the decision to implement energy saving projects, whether and to what extent public policies influence decision-making, challenges to the implementation of energy saving projects, and what non-energy benefits derive from the projects.
