The Danish parliament has committed to an agreement for a binding climate law, to ensure that greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by 70% in 2030 compared to 1990, and that Denmark becomes climate neutral by 2050 at the latest.
The actual implementation of climate efforts will primarily be carried out by companies, citizens, and municipalities. The influence of the municipalities is mainly directly in their own operations, but the largest climate effect happens due to the role of the municipalities and planning and approval body, as owner of supply companies, and due to partnerships with companies and providing information to citizens.
Rødovre Municipality is taking part in the second phase of the DK2020-project. By participating, municipalities commit to making climate action plans to reach the targets set by the Paris agreement, including having a net zero carbon emission in the municipality as a geographical area by 2050 at the latest.
In relation to this, Ea Energy Analyses has contributed to the work of the municipality of developing a climate action plan, which shows how the municipality will meet the target. For this purpose, several scenarios were made:
The scenario structure gave opportunity to explore the opportunities for action the municipality has, as well as setting up sector specific reduction targets. Furthermore, the scenarios pointed to the efforts and remedies that need to be prioritised towards 2030 and down the line also towards 2050.
In addition to the scenario analyses, Ea Energy Analyses has aided Rødovre Municipality in assessing the carbon reducing effect of a number of specific climate actions that the municipality plans to carry out.
The project was started in April 2021 and concluded in August 2022.
