The aim of this assignment was to improve modelling of the power system to be able to update and revise the Energy Strategy of Ukraine. The project is part of the Energy Partnership Programme (Ukraine-Denmark Energy Centre, UDEC) between Ukraine and Denmark.
In order to support the decision-making process for how Ukraine can achieve its energy goals, the modelling capability needed to include security of supply, integration of renewables and consideration of power markets. The revised energy strategy would then include mechanisms for achieving the goals of the energy sector.
Ea Energy Analyses had a supporting role in the project, primarily providing technical assistance, knowledge exchange and recommendations, as well as project management and administration support. A local team in Ukraine worked with the power system model, data update, model improvements and testing, as well as result preparation and presentation activities.
The project was carried out for the Danish Energy Agency in partnership with COWI, and it ran from August 2020 to March 2021.
