In August – September 2022, the Technical University of Denmark conducted a four-week course on the power system model Balmorel. They partnered with Ea Energy Analyses and Energy Modelling Lab for carrying out the course for 24 participants coming from Egypt, Indonesia, South Africa, Türkiye, and Vietnam.
The participants received an introduction to energy systems analysis and mathematical modelling, giving them the tools needed for not only constructing and performing their own energy systems analyses in Balmorel, but also to understand and further develop the model. A cloud-based setup for running the models was made, and the participants also used excel-based tools, like the GDX Tool and BERSERQ (developed by Ea), to make the modelling activities easier.
The course was sponsored by the Danida Fellowship Centre (DFC) as part of the DFC Scholarship Programme. The aim was to provide the participants with tools and information that enables them to improve the energy planning and policy making in their respective countries.
