Analysis of the potential for repowering in Billund Municipality

Municipal energy and climate planning | November 2024 - February 2025

Billund Municipality has joined the DK2020 project, now renamed as the Climate Alliance of Denmark. With the Climate Alliance, the municipality pledges to develop and implement climate action plans that live up to the Paris Agreement, and to be climate neutral in their geographical area by 2050.

Billund Municipality has set a goal of reducing their carbon emissions by 70% in 2030, compared to the level of 1990, and to reach net zero emissions by 2050. To reach the goals, Billund Municipality will explore the potential for setting up more renewable energy locally, among other things. This includes looking at the potential for repowering existing areas with wind turbines. When repowering, existing wind turbines are renovated, updated or replaced to increase production or extend their lifespan.

Ea Energy Analyses has carried out an analysis for Billund Municipality, looking at the potential of repowering existing wind turbine areas by installing new wind turbines.

The project ran from November 2024 to February 2025.
