Environmental alternatives for district heating in Aarhus

The City of Aarhus (Jutland) wants to be CO2-neutral by 2030. The district heating in Aarhus accounts for 18 per cent of the aggregated CO2 emissions and the district heating system in Aarhus is thus facing a number of challenges in the coming years to ensure a CO2-neutral heat supply while at the same time maintaining security of supply and cost-effectiveness.

Ea Energy Analyses has assisted AffaldVarme Aarhus (AVA) in finding methods to reduce the emissions through a number of projects. This includes e.g. analysis of large heat pumps for production of district heating, analysis of the effect of converting Studstrup Power Plant to wood-pellets as well as analysis of the possibilities of building a new biomass plant.
