Emergency preparedness in relation to power failures in state-owned institutions

Society is strongly dependent on reliable electricity supply. For some types of electricity consumption, it may be suitable to provide an additional security by installing a backup generation facility.

Together with Dansk Energi Analyse, Ea Energy Analyses has mapped the prevalence of backup generation facilities at national and regional level in Denmark. Also the background for a number of institutions’ acquisition and use of backup generation facilities was analysed, and their general preparedness in case of power failures was assessed. The results are based on telephone interviews with a large number of national and regional institutions as well as visits to 20 selected institutions.

The project was carried through for the Office of the Auditor General and the Danish Energy Authority (now the Danish Energy Agency) from December 2007 to March 2008. The project was part of a broader evaluation of national and regional emergency preparedness in relation to power failures, prepared by the Office of the Auditor General.
