Optimising urban planning with district energy

It is an emerging role for municipal planners to minimise the energy and climate impact of the built environment. The objective for the project is to develop an open source interactive model to allow planners to optimise urban planning with district energy, and to enable planners to evaluate different scenarios and the resulting GHG emissions reductions, energy savings and other social and economic benefits as part of the development of municipal plans.

 

As a part of the project, easily recognisable district energy archetypes for different types of urban form will be developed, and a better understanding of the relationship between district energy and the built environment from a planner’s perspective will be obtained.

 

Ea Energy Analyses provides expertise in energy modelling and district energy to the project led by Sustainability Solution Group (SSG) in Canada.

 

The project runs from September 2014 to March 2017
