Alternatives to supply obligation

Since 2003 all electricity customers have been able to choose freely between power suppliers. Only a small number of the Danish households have taken advantage of this opportunity - the majority of the households have kept their original power supplier.

Customers who have not changed their electricity supplier are receiving power at a regulated price. It is possible that this so-called supply obligation regulation is one of the reasons that only few customers switch to a different electricity supplier.

The project has analysed possibilities and challenges of various alternatives to the current supply obligation regulation.

The project was carried out for the Danish Energy Association and was finalised in February 2011.
